I am so proud to be part of this film, in theaters, now available on Netflix, with rave reviews, written produced and directed by the gifted James Schamus. A true gentleman, artist, and master of film. A generous and gifted cast, inspired crew, including the designers, director of photography, all coming together in this labor of love. And a terrific antidote to summer re-treads of blockbuster hyper drive sound and editing. Logan Lerman, Tracy Letts, Sarah Gadon and more New York actors round out this lyrical piece. Every now and then, you just get lucky. Please see it!
AND FURTHERMORE....
I recently had the pleasure and privilege of working with two consummate masters of their crafts on an amazing event. Award winning set designer, George Allison, and Emmy award winning director Eric Siegel on the first televised debate from the floor of the United Nations General Assembly for the first ever debate to choose the new Secretary General. Unprecedented in its 70 year history, this event was broadcast worldwide to an audience of billions on the Al-Jazeera news network and received the highest critical praise for its content, production value and groundbreaking technical mastery. In ten days, George managed to design, construct and install a thrust stage, podiums, desks and an overall look. Eric directed 9 live cameras, including a 25 foot jib crane camera and a traveling hand-held on the floor of the Assembly. It was a superhuman endeavor, all broadcast live under Eric's expertise and George's up to the last minute set tweaks.
Note the lighting, which is not what exists there presently, and was part of the production team. This was an extraordinary event, unfortunately overshadowed by some of the horrid current events we are reading about in the news. However, it was designed by the United Nations to open up its visibility and standing in the world as peacekeepers, especially given the worldwide terror we are all living with. I encourage you to watch the video when you have time, as much for the brilliant directing and set design and lighting, as for its content and message of hope and international cooperation and action to bring peace across the globe.
